Beach and Blessings

Today is a good day because this week is chemo free week and Neill and I just arrived at the beach for an early Thanksgiving with family. One thing cancer does, is make you appreciate the good days, more than ever. Each day is a gift from God and I am thankful for each one. Last week was a challenging week to say the least. After my third round of Chemotherapy (Taxol), I was having chest tightness and little twinges of pain for two days. My doctor sent me to the ER where they found I had an irregular heartbeat and was low on a couple nutrients. After giving me a round of magnesium and potassium I was sent home. The next day I had an appointment with a cardiologist to further evaluate me and find out if the chemo has effected my heart. Between him and my oncologist I am hoping they can figure it out soon. Another possibility is just sheer anxiety causing the chest issues. The cardiologist feels there is nothing to worry about and my heart is not damaged. This week off chemotherapy has been a blessing!!! I was able to sing at church Wednesday night with some great people and enjoy using my voice to serve God. It was wonderful therapy for me! God is good!!! Im hoping I can continue to sing some throughout my chemotherapy journey as long as Im feeling up to it. It is one day at a time and I have to remind myself of that. Some days I can function pretty well but others days I have to listen to my body and let it rest. Tonight, I will be shaving my head and drawing strength from my inner GI Jane. I loved having my long hair but, it is just hair. Putting it in perspective, I am glad I am here to get to shave my head. It will grow back and I now have an excuse to buy more fabulous hats…haha…For the next few days Im going to rest, relax, rejuvenate, count my blessings and enjoy the beautiful sunsets on the beach. Thanking God for this time to enjoy life! Memarie
