Surviving Ovarian Cancer

This has been a week of many emotions ranging from denial to peace to anger, confusion and back again to peace. You never think you are going to be diagnosed with ovarian cancer or any type of cancer for that matter. I guess nobody does... But here I am...My greatest sadness is the burden this puts on the ones I love. I like the be the one helping and supporting everyone around me and this scenario does not fit into my usual scheme of things. Shock is the first response and for me that quickly turned into fix it mode. Once I got over the fact that I can not fix it I went to gathering all the information I could on ovarian cancer. Somehow this helps me regain a little more control over myself. At the end of the day prayer is what saves me from my own thoughts and emotions. God is my constant and I know he will get me through this with a victory in his name!

I now know I have two different types on cancer. One was found in my ovaries and the other in my uterus. Surgery went well removing my ovaries, uterus and fallopian tubes. Dr. Chrispens also removed fluid found in my abdomen along with a couple of cancer cells. Chemotherapy is the next recommendation for my treatment to make sure that any possible cancer cells still there, yet unseen can be hopefully eradicated.  As we know chemotherapy is a toxin and it does kill good cells as well. There are also risks in damaging other organs through chemo. I am researching alternative methods that do not cause any harmful side effects in addition to researching chemotherapy. When something like this happens the need for information is overwelming. I will continue to pray that God lead me in the direction he wants me to go for my future cancer treatment. I am also open to any comments from other ovarian cancer survivors. Experience offers the best advice. God Bless!
